Background:
Born and raised in Papua New Guinea. After completing high school, I moved across the Pacific to Portland, Oregon where I studied fine arts at Portland State University. After earning my degree in 1994, I spent the next 12 years in Sales, Customer Service and Operations Management. I made the risky decision to pursue art full-time in 2006. I needed to create! I sold most of my belongings, packed the rest of my life into a box, and reset my life in beautiful Hilo, Hawai`i. I never looked back! I can say that I am living my dream. My hope is that you can see that in the work I do. |
My Mission Statement:
To explore and evolve, move forward and create something new and inspirational, but never let go of the ancestral hand that defines what is authentic Oceanic art.
Oceanic Art:
Oceania is a term used to group the peoples of Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Australia. The Peoples are thought to have migrated out of East Asia into New Guinea and Australia over 35,000 years ago. From there, migration continued out into the vast Pacific.
The art of Oceania, well, it's not really art but rather a 'mark'. It's a mark that defines who one is. It is a design that identifies a group, a tribe, language group...and...it's a big deal. Without a history of written language, these marks have been passed down through many generations.
That's where my inspiration comes from! I am proud to say that I am a Pacific artist.
Services I Offer:

I do most of my work out of my home shop in Hilo, Hawai`i. When the job requires, I come to you.
Hand Made With Aloha:
I work hard to capture that `authentic' look and feel. Power tools? Sometimes. But, I mostly use an assortment of chisels, gouges, and adze to showcase beautiful tool marks that no CNC machine or grinder can reproduce.
I have worked on projects for major hotels, interior designers, Disney, Fiji Airways, Polynesian Football Hall of Fame/Polynesian Cultural Center, and many involved high end home projects from Hawai`i to the mainland US.
Logistics...no problem. If your request is too large for the postal carriers, I have freight forwarders that will help.
